For a long service life of your cookware

We hope you enjoy cooking with your new cookware for a long time. During manufacturing, our coatings are checked at regular intervals in test labs to ensure you buy quality products that do not pose any risk to health. We wish to point out that we do not use PFOA in any of our coatings.

To ensure you enjoy your product for as long as possible, we have compiled a list of important tips and instructions on how to care for your BERNDES product. If, despite extensive tests, you receive a product that does not meet our quality standards, please contact us and follow our instructions for fuss-free claims.

General instructions for the use of your BERNDES product

  • To keep your high-quality cookware in good condition, avoid using sharp or pointed objects such as knives or forks. While normal traces of use (light scratching) do not affect the functioning of the cookware, we still recommend you use kitchen utensils made of wood or plastic. Any scratches you can feel with your fingernail can damage the coating permanently.
  • It is important to use the right oil or fat to avoid burning at certain temperatures. For more information on this, see the corresponding detailed information. 
  • Do not pour cold water onto hot fat. This can cause dangerous explosions.
  • The excellent heat conduction of the cookware means you can continue to cook on a medium heat after initial frying or boiling, in this way saving energy.
  • Do not heat the cookware for long periods when it is empty. When using induction cookers, the cookware heats up rapidly, therefore never heat the cookware when it is empty and always use a medium heat setting!
  • Cast metal handles and stainless steel handles on pans and casseroles are completely oven-safe. Because of the good heat conductivity, always handle hot cookware with pan holders, serving aids or our Thermo-Grips. Otherwise there is a risk of burns!
  • Unless otherwise stated, plastic handles and lid knobs are heatproof up to 160 °C/320 °F. Please note this when using them in the oven and set the temperature accordingly. Plastic handles and lid knobs become hot when used in the oven. Please use pan holders, serving aids or our Thermo-Grips, otherwise there is a risk of burns!
  • Protect wooden handles in the oven by simply wrapping aluminium foil around them.
  • If you lift the lid during cooking, hot steam escapes from the pan. Please use a pan holder to avoid burns.

General care instructions for your BERNDES product

  • All you need for cleaning is hot water, washing-up liquid and a soft sponge. It is not enough to wipe coated cookware with kitchen paper. Residual fat must be completely washed off because otherwise it burns in the next time you heat the pan. This can cause overheating damage.
  • Your cookware will last longer if you do not put it in the dishwasher. The cleaning agents used in dishwashers are often too aggressive and in the long term they damage the material.
  • You should also avoid washing products with wooden handles in the dishwasher because this dries out the wood.
  • Any discolouration on the base of cast aluminium cookware is a harmless aluminium oxidation. It does not pose a health risk and does not affect the functioning of the cookware. The combination of water hardness, cleaning agent and temperature/moisture conditions in the dishwasher accelerates the natural oxidation process. Incidentally, this not a valid reason for a guarantee claim.

Zusätzliche Pflegehinweise für antihaftversiegeltes Kochgeschirr

Zusätzliche Pflegehinweise für Keramikversiegelungen

Keramikversiegelungen werden erst seit einigen Jahren im Bereich Kochgeschirr eingesetzt und sind ebenfalls gesundheitlich unbedenklich. Diese extrem harten Versiegelungen sind kratzfest, aber Achtung: Ähnlich wie Emaille ist bei der harten Versiegelung die Schlagfestigkeit, gerade an Topf- und Pfannenrändern, eingeschränkt.
Bitte achten Sie auf eine sachgemäße Benutzung:

  • vor dem ersten Gebrauch spülen um Staub und feine Fremdkörper zu entfernen, die sich im Zuge der Produktion und Verpackung ablagern können.
  • extrem harte und kratzfeste Versiegelung mit eingeschränkter Schlagfestigkeit. Verwenden Sie auch hier dennoch bitte Küchenhelfer aus Kunststoff oder Holz und keine scharfen oder spitzen Gegenstände, um langfristig Abnutzungen zu vermeiden.
  • ein anfänglicher Antihafteffekt lässt materialbedingt über die Lebensdauer nach und ist nicht vergleichbar mit den langlebigen Antihafteigenschaften von PTFE-Versiegelungen. Verwenden Sie deshalb zum Braten immer Öle oder Fette.
  • Bei einer Überhitzung bestehen keine gesundheitlichen Risiken, diese gehen eher von verbranntem Öl oder Fett aus. Beachten Sie deshalb immer die richtige Wahl ihres Öls.
  • lassen Sie das Kochgeschirr nach dem Gebrauch ein wenig abkühlen und füllen Sie anschließend etwas heißes Wasser ein, um eventuelle Überhitzungsschäden durch einbrennende Fettreste (Speiseöle verdampfen ab ca. 200 °C) zu vermeiden.

Care instructions for stainless steel cookware

  • Rinse before first use to remove any dust and particles the product could have picked up during production and packing. Salt can corrode the material, prevent marks and damage to the base of the pan by only adding salt to the boiling water.
  • After you use it, let the pan cool down a little, then fill it with hot water to remove any stuck-on food. Then bring back the shine using water, washing-up liquid and a sponge.
  • You can remove stubborn deposits by adding a mixture of 9 parts water to one part vinegar essence and briefly boiling it.
  • Over time, minerals in tap water can cause dull marks or stains on the surface. Clean these spots by rubbing them with half a lemon.
  • Do not use scratchy sponges, steel wool or abrasive cleaning agents because they can roughen the surface.
